Retrofleet: Pioneer in retrofitting for sustainable and competitive electric mobility

RETROFLEET, a car manufacturer and pioneer in retrofitting in France and Europe, has been developing a range of products and solutions since 2020 to accelerate the transition to electric mobility. After numerous road and industrial vehicle electrification projects, the company has moved towards the professional vehicle range, starting at 3,5 tonnes.

The company designs, manufactures, and markets electric conversion solutions in France to reconcile electric mobility and reindustrialization. This approach enables rapid and competitive decarbonization of commercial fleets.

RETROFLEET is aimed at businesses, communities and public stakeholders wishing to transform their vehicles to meet the challenges of sustainable mobility.

Complete solutions reinforced by the CBM group

The range of solutions RETROFLEET covers the design, manufacture and supply of retrofit solutions but also, with the subsidiary MONA Energy, the sizing and supply of charging infrastructures with a very high level of service, thus allowing total control of the complete cost of electrification of vehicle fleets.

Company RETROFLEET integrated as majority shareholder in April 2024 the French group CBM (Car et Bus Maintenance), based in Le Mans, world leader in bus and coach spare parts. This shareholding allows for synergy with the various businesses present in the CBM group, from the marketing of spare parts, to vehicle renovation and bodywork operations with the subsidiary BESSET. This also allows us to structure our capacity to address important markets in France and abroad by benefiting from the solid networks of the CBM group already in place.

Services offered by Retrofleet

An industrial solution for the decarbonization of fleets, with “made in France and in Europe” as the compass and financial and carbon indicators as the objective. RETROFLEET obtained the “Origine France Garantie” label issued by Bureau Veritas in 2024.

At RETROFLEET, we understand the importance of an efficient and accessible ecological transition. Our expertise encompasses a complete approach to retrofitting, including infrastructure sizing, research/development, engineering and production.

All the processes and solutions developed are geared towards optimizing the total cost (TCO: €/km - Total Cost of Ownership) and the environmental impact (TCO2/km), on the vehicle part but also on the entire chain, whether it concerns maintenance, charging infrastructure or also the various energy costs.

The “engineering” department

The "engineering" department covers all design and industrial production activities from the basic concept, prototyping, industrialization to preparation for series production. We aim to maintain control of our technologies with significant investments in the development and production of electronic cards and associated software, but also and especially in energy storage systems.

The “production” department

The "production" department handles the production of storage systems (battery packs), produced on a dedicated production line with a low-carbon micro-factory concept. The pre-assembly of conversion kits on a second production line makes it possible to control and considerably shorten the actual vehicle assembly time (less than 2 to 3 weeks).

The “ready-to-fit” conversion kits are then sent to the sites of our authorized partner installers, RETROFLEET remaining the guarantor of the quality and final delivery of the transformed vehicle. This approach allows vehicles to be transformed as close as possible to customers at 5 installation sites, with the sister company of the CBM group, BESSET (Lyon, Paris, Nantes), our partner the Bacqueyrisses group (Bordeaux). A site located in Lons le Saunier is also authorized for the specific needs of a customer, given the volumes transformed. The transformation time of 2 to 3 weeks allows a rapid switch to electric.

Our values: innovation, competitiveness and sustainability

From our head office in Chambéry, Savoie, we focus our efforts on understanding our customers' businesses, innovation, and the quality of local production to offer solutions tailored to each customer's needs, with the motto of "doing better with less." This is also what a more sustainable world is all about. With a growing production capacity currently set at 1 conversion kit per day, and with an ambition of 200 vehicles converted by 2025, we are aiming for a concrete, rapid, and sustainable response to climate change challenges.

Our batteries, produced in France, are designed to last between 10 and 15 years depending on the use of the vehicles concerned. They are also designed to switch to a second life (when their capacity has decreased) in stationary mode after their first life in mobility. A demonstrator is also present on the site RETROFIT from Chambéry (IREVE project, winner of an ADEME call for projects). Finally, these non-welded batteries are repairable and easily recyclable, allowing the reuse of structural parts. They already meet the requirements of the new European regulations applicable from 2025.
